# Usage alerts (/en/docs/platform/features/alerting/usage-alerts)

Usage alerts warn you as report volume approaches your plan limit. They are separate from alert rules: different configuration, email only, and no channels involved.

They matter more than any other alert, because **hitting the workspace limit stops ingestion for every website you own** until the period resets. Reports arriving after that are rejected, not queued, so the gap is permanent.

## Where to set recipients [#where-to-set-recipients]

Two places, and both are worth filling in.

**Workspace level**, at **Settings** > **Usage**. This setting covers the whole workspace quota and needs the **Admin** role.

**Per website**, at the website's **Settings** > **Usage**. This setting covers that site's own limit if you set one, and needs **Manager** or above.

Both use a member picker, so recipients must be workspace members.

## What gets sent [#what-gets-sent]

An email at **80%** and again at **100%** of the limit.

Each threshold sends once per usage period. Crossing 100% suppresses the 80% notice for that period, so you never get both at once from a sudden jump.

Usage resets at the start of every calendar month, and so do the notifications.

## Who should receive them [#who-should-receive-them]

The 80% warning is only useful to someone who can act on it. That usually means the person who owns the site, not the person who owns the billing relationship. Those are often different people, and adding only the second one is the common mistake.

Practical split: the site owner and whoever administers the workspace at 80%, plus whoever can authorize a plan change for 100%.

Removing a member from the workspace removes them from the recipient list automatically, which is a quiet way to lose coverage. Re-check the list after anyone leaves.

## When you hit the limit [#when-you-hit-the-limit]

Ingestion stops. Two ways out:

* **A per-site cap was reached:** Raise it or turn it off and collection resumes immediately. For more information, refer to [Usage and limits](/en/docs/platform/websites/usage-and-limits).
* **The workspace quota was reached:** Wait for the reset or move to a larger plan. For more information, refer to [Billing](/en/docs/platform/billing).

Before raising anything, find out what consumed the quota. Extension noise and an untuned policy account for most surprise overages, and both are cheaper to fix than to pay for. For more information, refer to [Ingestion filters](/en/docs/platform/websites/reporting-settings).
